Excel Files as a External Data Source that updates the embedded spreadsheet based on a schedule?

Hello Everyone,

I am  a newbie to SAP Dashboards 4.0. I am investigating whether we can use SAP Dashboards that use spreadsheets outside of the BO Environment. Can you please point me to the right resources? If we use the embedded spreadsheet option, how can the embedded spreadsheet be updated based on a schedule?
